Emotional (Ramblings) Book Tag

We're doing things a little differently today. Today we're doing a BOOK TAG!

I've always loved book tags. They're such a simple way to get to know people better, get some new book recommendations, and reflect on some of the great books you've read.

But how do you do a book tag for a poetry book?

Well, I can't see why we couldn't use emotions as our key "characters" (so to speak). 🤷‍♀️ The idea is to list a book or character that has sparked the emotions reflected in Emotional Ramblings. We all know that intense surge of rage when a book ends on a cliffhanger, the heartwarming sensation when our "ships" work out, and the confusion that comes with a book that has you guessing from the very first page, but keeps you hanging to the very last.

So, without further adieu, a very different, very Emotional (Ramblings) book tag...

Anger: Allegiant, Veronica Roth. Look, anger might be too strong a word. But you can't tell me I'm the only one that was 100% fed up with Tris' whining by the end of this series and was actually glad to have the remainder of the book from Fours perspective. Come on.

Joy: Heartless, Marissa Meyer. I LOVE Alice in Wonderland. The wordplay speaks to me in a way that makes me physically sway while I read. Like the dance of fingers on keys, Heartless made my mind sway to and fro with the riddles and references to the classic story, bringing new life to a character I’d never connected with before.

Sadness: My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece. This one was as much sadness as it was love and joy for me. I found it incredibly honest and true to the characters' lives. As someone who lost a sister young, this book was incredibly heartwarming, as I felt like I was reading my own thoughts and emotions. I loved how every character grieves in their own way, and that's ok. Yes, it is a sad one, but great insight if you've never experienced that kind of loss, and a great comfort if you have. I highly recommend picking this one up, and please hand it to any child that may be going through the same thing and maybe doesn't know how to cope.

Excitement: Keeper & Seeker, Kim Chance. Everything Kim writes makes me so excited because her characters are so lifelike and relatable, so I just want to dive right in. But Maggie, in particular, brings a level of excitement not matched by other characters I’ve read. You get a look at Maggie's infectious joy in the very first scene of Keeper, and she is solid throughout. It's hard not to love that girl.

Jealousy: Belle, Beauty and the Beast. Ok, so I haven’t technically read the original story (hello, BOOK tag!) but I’m counting it because: WHO DOESN’T WANT THAT LIBRARY?!!!

Love: November 9, Colleen Hoover. Every part of this story made me fall in love with Colleens writing instantly. The complexities of the characters, the mystique- what IS he hiding?- the wonder- where is this going?- the love. I sunk into this book and didn't want to come out again.

Fear: I'll admit, I don't tend to read books that elicit this emotion for me, so I've been wracking my brain and I've got nothing. In saying that, I do feel for the characters in the fairytale stories I have. I started reading from some old Readers Digest books while I was pregnant, and wholly moly guys! If you're a character in a fairytale you better watch out! Basically everyone in those stories are screwed!

Confusion: The Vampire Academy series, Richelle Mead. Who needs more than one TYPE of vampire in one book? And why are Russian names all so similar? I have no idea who’s who.

And that's it!

I'd love to see your book tags too. As this is an Emotional book tag, get creative. Show me your blog, vlog, Insta posts, or something completely different.

Just make sure you have some tissues on standby- reflecting on all those emotions can be rough. 😂
