Happy Birthday SEEKER!
First there was the announcement: SEEKER, the long-awaited sequel to KEEPER, was happening! Then we waited, not so patiently, for a release date- including the pre-order campaign-, cover reveal, and the official start of the SEEKER madness to begin.
We celebrated KEEPERs 1 Year anniversary, finally got to see SEEKERs cover, and got to see Kim’s reaction as she unboxed her ARCs- and were invited to read ARCs early!
Then it really began…
Kim created the SEEKER Book Tag and invited us all to join in the fun- you can see my responses below- and we got a peek at the exclusive artwork that is included in the pre-order pack. Then came the official unboxing of the finished copies- complete with a happiness t-shirt and the biggest grin you’ve ever seen on Kims face.
Two weeks away from SEEKERs release saw Kim share her “dream cast” for seeker- because it’s fun to dream y’all! It’s so fun to get inside a writers head, so make sure you check out this video guys and see what Kim imagined for her characters while she was writing SEEKER.
Just when you think you can’t get more content- or more excited for that matter- out comes the BOOK TRAILER for SEEKER.
And then we took a look back at SEEKERs journey to publication. You guys, if you haven’t seen this video, make sure you check it out. As we celebrate SEEKERs release, it would be really easy to forget about the very real struggle it took to get it into our eager hands. But it’s so important that we don’t forget. It’s important that we remember that even some of our favourite books, the ones that make us laugh and cry and feel things we never expected to feel about worlds that were made up in someone’s head, almost didn’t happen. That some of the book we consider to be truly amazing pieces of genius were actually really difficult to bring to life. Both as readers AND as writers, it is important to remember that greatness isn’t always easy. And as human beings in general, it is so important to remember how hard you can work, how much you can work through, and how far you can come through your struggles. In a video celebrating something amazing, Kim has been kind, and brave, enough to share flashbacks of those hard times- something we all need reminding of sometimes.
And so now is the moment we have all been waiting for. Today, Tuesday 10th September 2019, is SEEKERs birthday. (YAY!) You can now get your hands on a copy of SEEKER and dive into the crazy lives of Lainey, Maggie and Ty. Trust me when I say this is an incredible book, well worth the read. This book made me laugh, cry, and all things in between. The magic is magical, the characters relatable, and the story so captivating it’s hard to put down.
So, Happy Birthday SEEKER!
Congratulations Kim for all your hard work- it has certainly paid off.
If you haven’t ordered yourself a copy of SEEKER yet, make sure to do so NOW. And if you missed out on any of Kims videos in the lead up to SEEKERs release, make sure to check out the links at the bottom of this post.

And now for my take on the SEEKER Book Tag…
SEEKER Book Tag
Seeker: What type of book do you "seek" out first when you want to read--i.e. what genre do you typically gravitate towards as a reader?
Contemporary. I love getting sucked into a character’s world, life and mind. I find this easiest with contemporary, since the world/characters/circumstances resemble our lives more closely.
Maggie: What book character would you want as your best friend? Why?
Maggie! Is that cheating? Especially since Kim said the same thing. Hehe. But who wouldn’t want Maggie as a bestie? She’s cool, calm and sensible. Even when she is using comic books to make a point about a real-life situation, she somehow manages to have a point, make a lot of sense, and give great advice. She’s also loyal, hardworking and open minded. Who doesn’t love a gal like that?
Ty & Lainey: Which "it's complicated" ship do you fangirl/boy over the most?
Can I use T.V. for this one- is that cheating too? For me, Damon and Elena. I love that their history is complicated by compulsions, and when the compulsion wears off, it only makes things more complicated as well as less. The way their relationship impacts their lives is also interesting. They always put each other first, even when they don’t, and everything they do affects the lives of those around them.
Teddy: Who is your favorite bookish mentor?
The Little Prince- I found this book so interesting, because the little prince was so wise and insightful in unconventional ways. I also loved that the "child" in the story was giving advice to the adult- it was a refreshing turn.
Oliver: Which prickly or unlikable character do you like the most and why?
The Mad Hatter from Heartless. I found this character tricky and wise and challenging. Something about this character made me think.
Plot Twist: Which book had an epic plot twist that you never saw coming?
SEEKER! Don’t get me wrong, there were chunks of the story that flowed really nicely and clued you into what was coming next. But there were also little gems that threw you along the way and made you want answers to those burning questions like NOW. Seeker has a great blend of predictability and surprise that keeps those pages turning over and over and over again.
Pain is a tether: What's a book that ripped your heart out?
Listen, I was going to mention Heartless, but since Kim did too, I couldn’t do it twice. Plus, I was enjoying the trickiness and word play of this book so much, that when it ended, I wasn’t upset about the story- only that there wasn’t more of it.
But as for a story that tugged at the heartstrings and really got to me was My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece. This book really captured the essence of grief and how it affects everyone differently, how the way a person copes affects their life outside of home, and how it is often easy to forget that the person next to you (who went through the same loss) may not be coping the same way you are. These are subtle things that are often missed when dealing with a story about loss, and I honestly loved the way it was approached in this book. As a person who lost someone quite young- much like the MC in this book- it was just as heart-warming as it was heartbreaking to finish this book.
The Grand Finale: What book series were you sad to see end?
I don’t read a lot of series- and a lot that I’ve started I’ve yet to finish. And generally I am happy to finish a series- providing they are finished well. The only exception to this I can think of would be KEEPER & SEEKER. But only because I was enjoying the characters and seeing their stories play out. SEEKER was finished wonderfully, and tied up the story perfectly, but I would be amiss if I didn’t admit that I was sad to turn that last page.
